Our goal is to increase family self-sufficiency and combat poverty through projects that kindle hope, provide support, build skills, and increase awareness and knowledge of available resources.

Foster Care Activity Night at Northern Home
Thursdays, September 4 & 18, 6:00pm-8:00pm
(2-4 volunteers needed; Roxborough/Thursdays)
Volunteers are needed to engage children in recreational and educational activities while their foster parents attend meetings and support group. Activities will promote social skills and learning as the children play with each other and with volunteers. Volunteers must be over 18.

Career Wardrobe - East Falls

Help transitioning women to make a good first impression with employers by sizing and sorting donated professional clothes for women returning to the workforce.

Volunteers will read talk and play with the children to get them active and be encouraged to create their own games to be played indoors or outdoors.

Books through Bars

Books through Bars, an agency that provides reading materials to inmates, could use your help reading letters from prisoners, looking for books they requested, and packing the books for shipment. Feel free to stay on past 8:30. more help is always appreciated!

 Values through Sports and Arts & Crafts

(4-10 volunteers needed; Nicetown/Twice monthly)
Support New Creation Community Center’s program to help at-risk, inner city children and youth develop self-esteem, creativity, values, and life skills through structured activities. Head outside to play basketball or stay inside to assist children with an arts and crafts project. Lunch is provided at 12:30 to keep everyone energized!

Play Day at the Northern Home for Children

Spend time nurturing and playing one-on-one with infants and toddlers of young single mothers at the Northern Home for Children. Volunteers will provide stimulation crucial to these babies' development while their mothers attend classes to develop their independent living and parenting skills.

Recipes for Success at Northern Home Children and Family Services

(4 volunteers needed; Roxborough/1st & 3rd Sundays
Cook with young moms as you share healthy recipes and good nutrition practices with them. One volunteer is needed to watch children while their mothers are cooking. No special experience needed - all recipes and activities will be provided.
